It is common knowledge that Energy Management (EM) saves you money. So why are all the companies not rushing out and saving money with EM? We are all for saving money but EneServ does so by looking at it in a different "light"!
The reason we believe everyone is not out running to the bank with boat-load of saving is that although everyone knows this truth the actual record is very spotty! Why is this? We have done some research and here's what we found.
- Companies do this piece-meal. There is no over-arching plan or a strategic direction that governs project selection with the result that opportunities with better ROI or greater operational impact might be overlooked.
- Narrow scope. No electrical equipment works in isolation. It is always connected to something else - people, space, operations, etc. Making a device more efficient may not necessarily be effective. Installing an energy efficient bulb may save some cost but it could be draining morale with poor lighting! We advocate studying these decisions in totality not in isolation. Also, the bigger the project the bigger the opportunity for making mistakes.
- Energy saving is a process. In a small-scale environment such as a Mom & Pop store the bulb can be replaced when necessary. That strategy can be very expensive in a large facility due to the addition of labor costs. So a different way of managing all the bulbs needs to be explored. The complexity grows exponentially as the number of devices, facilities, and location grows. And this is where the greatest strides have been made in recent years through the use of technology and processes.
